Bring on the coffee I.V.
What a week! It was awesome but exhausting at the same time. Lecture is REALLY cool. We are finally learning to apply all the pathophys to the patient and not just do memorization. So we are learning about ICP and stuff and I am so interested in what the instructor is saying that I don't even realize 2 hours has gone by. It is pretty much the same in clinical. I was assigned to a 1-1 patient in the CCU. He was a disaster. I initially thought "Cool! 1 patient." Boy was I wrong. This gentleman who could not speak or move kept me hopping the 2 days I cared for him. I had been at his side for 3 hours and thought it had only been one when I finally looked at the clock. My instructor said she gave me the most difficult patient out of all the assignments. I can see why but, I really loved it. Absolutely no down time with him. Just one thing after another. I think I like the CCU and ICU. Lots of critical thinking is involved and I tend to be a concrete thinker so this is really good for me.
One downside to all of this is the lack of sleep I have been getting. By the time I went to bed at 7am on Saturday morning I had been up 27 straight hours. It was not a pretty sight. I got up at 4am on Friday to get ready for clinical and was on the hospital floor by 6am. I worked there until 4 then came home and took care of all my home duties and then had to take a friend back home to Merced like an hour away. So at 7 we left for Merced and I drove back home as fast as I could and got home at 8:30. I sat down and began to look over my patients data for the paper I have to write and then realized it was time for me to leave for my paper route. The papers were 1 hour late and I could barely hold my head up. So my friend Mike took me to Starbucks and actually told them to put as many shots in my drink as it would take to keep me up. It was so bitter but I still drank it (YUCK). I folded and delivered all 800 papers and came home and CRASHED! I slept until 3. Bad thing because last night I could not fall asleep until 2 am this morning. Gotta take better care of myself and pay attention to the clock. Ya think?
Tayler starts school tomorrow and I am so excited for him! He is looking forward to seeing his friends again. He is going into fifth grade. (Sniff, Sniff) Too soon he will be in High school and so done with this Mom thing. I will enjoy it as I can.
I hope all is well with those that make their way to this. I need to make it to my books I have my first exam on Tuesday. Oh yeah, and I got my very first Tutee assigned to me. Pray for the poor girl that I do not warp her mind too much (he he)
