Death and Dying
Is my blog starting to sound morbid??? Sorry. This next couple of weeks we are studying this topic and I feel so emotionally raw it is hard. Today we watched a movie about the patients perspective of the clinical setting and the health care team when they are Diagnosed, treated and dying of cancer. Not a dry eye in the house. Then we had a Q&A session with our instructor about how are WE going to deal with this. Simply put she said you become cynical and learn to get to that part of your brain that remind you that you are Nurse Cher and not a member of this patients family or even a family friend and that is how you are able to carry out your duties and then cry on the way home and process. She said we will grieve but we can't make it about us or become so emotional that the family is consoling us. I agree and I am honestly not looking forward to that part of my job. She said we are in the frontline for the families and when the patient passes on our new patient is the family. EMOTIONAL!!!
EDIT: The movie we watched was a made for HBO movie called WIT with Emma Thompson. Highly recommended!!!
